Public Lecture: The Role of Notaries: Intellectual Property Rights Protection in License and Franchise Agreements

Semarang, April 25, 2026 — The Master of Notary Studies Program, Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University (UNDIP), held a public lecture on Saturday, April 25, 2026, entitled “The Role of Notaries: Protection of Intellectual Property Rights in License and Franchise Agreements.” The event took place in the UNDIP Master of Notary Studies Seminar Room, 6th Floor, Postgraduate Building B, Semarang.

The public lecture featured Prof. Dr. Insan Budi Maulana, S.H., LL.M., an advocate and Intellectual Property expert, as the keynote speaker. In his presentation, he explained the importance of the role of notaries in providing legal protection for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), particularly in the drafting and ratification of license and franchise agreements.

According to Prof. Insan Budi Maulana, the increasingly competitive business world demands legal certainty regarding the use of trademarks, copyrights, and other forms of IPR in business practices. Therefore, a notary public has a strategic position to ensure that every agreement is legally and clearly drawn up and provides protection for all parties.

“The presence of a notary public is not limited to drafting deeds, but also to ensuring that the substance of license and franchise agreements meets the requirements for IPR protection in accordance with applicable legal provisions,” he said.

The event was opened by Dr. Aju Putrijanti, S.H., M.Hum., Secretary of the UNDIP Master of Notary Program. In her remarks, she stated that this public lecture was part of an academic effort to broaden students’ knowledge of notarial practices relevant to developments in modern business law.

“This activity is expected to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the importance of IPR protection in various forms of business agreements, particularly licenses and franchises,” said Dr. Aju Putrijanti.

The public lecture was attended by Master of Notary students, academics, and legal practitioners who enthusiastically participated in the discussion and question-and-answer session. Through this activity, the UNDIP Notary Masters Study Program demonstrates its commitment to presenting a scientific forum that supports the development of academic and professional competencies in the notary field.
